Buoyancy and Wind Driven Changes in Subantarctic Mode Water During 2004–2019

چکیده

The Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) is a thick low-stratified subsurface water mass located north of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, and it important for heat uptake. How SAMW has changed what drives that change remain to be quantified. By synthesizing observations, eddy-resolving ocean model hindcasts climate simulations, we show become warmer, fresher, lighter, weaker in recent decades. As revealed by partially coupled experiments, core remained at constant depth since 2004 due balance between enhanced wind stress curl, which deepens core, buoyancy gain, shallows core. lightening weakening mainly result from increased surface gain warming, while westerlies play secondary role slowing this trend. greenhouse warming continues, stratification will keep SAMW.

Decadal biogeochemical changes in the subtropical Indian Ocean associated with Subantarctic Mode Water

[1] Within the Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) density level, we study temporal changes in salinity, nutrients, oxygen and TTD (Transit Time Distribution) ages in the western (W) and eastern (E) subtropical gyre of the Indian Ocean (IO) from 1987 to 2002. Additionally, changes in Total Alkalinity (TA) and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) are evaluated between 1995 and 2002. The mechanisms behind...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Buoyancy and Wind-Driven Convection at Mixed Layer Density Fronts

In this study, the influence of a geostrophically balanced horizontal density gradient on turbulent convection in the ocean is examined using numerical simulations and a theoretical scaling analysis. Starting with uniform horizontal and vertical buoyancy gradients, convection is driven by imposing a heat loss or a destabilizing wind stress at the upper boundary, and a turbulent layer soon devel...

Cfd Modelling of Buoyancy-driven Natural Ventilation Opposed by Wind

This paper presents CFD simulations of natural displacement ventilation airflows in which the buoyancy force produced by a heat source is opposed by a wind force. Cases investigated focus on windbuoyancy force relationships for which a two-layer stratification is maintained. CFD predictions of the position of the interface separating the two layers and the change in reduced gravity (temperature...

Effects of Viscosity Variations on Buoyancy-Driven Flow from a Horizontal Circular Cylinder Immersed in Al2O3-Water Nanofluid

The buoyancy-driven boundary-layer flow from a heated horizontal circular cylinder immersed in a water-based alumina (Al2O3) nanofluid is investigated using variable properties for nanofluid viscosity. Two different viscosity models are utilized to evaluate heat transfer enhancement from a cylinder. Exact analytic solutions of the problem are attained employing a novel...
